Hats are the punctuation mark of a costume.

Being creative has always been a part of Lynne Mackey’s life.  She started as a small child doing craft work and was exceptionally fortunate to have parents who fostered and nurtured their children’s creative sparks.

Lynne attended Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania studying costume design. Her first foray into hat making was at the Alaska Repertory, where her passion for millinery quickly grew and it did not take long to realize that where her heart and soul truly belonged was on top of a head.

"Best of all, perhaps, are the hats by Lynne Mackey."

- Variety Magazine

After Alaska, Lynne working regional theatres until her path finally brought her to New York City—and Broadway.  Over three decades later, her work spans from Broadway to the world and from the stage to the screen.

Where her heart lies is in vintage hats, especially bonnets.  Her specialty and passion is in recreating these timeless classics to as close to what they would have been in their time;  endlessly searching for just the right look and the right materials to make a statement.

As Lynne says, "fun is getting to make period pieces as close to what was available at the time. It's not always easy procuring the materials, but it is always worth it".

"A Mackey hat is a thing of art and history."

- NYCity Woman

Discerning  eyes will always be able to spot a Lynne Mackey hat from the craftsmanship, attention to detail, and beautiful finishings.

Lynne always prefers the term 'family' when referring to those she directs at Lynne Mackey Studio: a group of talented individuals with a variety of diverse backgrounds in the industry and expertise in sewing, crafting, painting, beading, and metalworking (to name a few). Each hat is handmade by one of such individuals with utmost care and love for the craft.

I love what I do. I lose my sense of time and space when I am creating. I just love it.
